Thyroid Health and Fatigue

Feeling tired occasionally is normal. Ongoing fatigue that does not improve with rest is not. When exhaustion becomes part of daily life, it may be a sign that the thyroid is not functioning as it should.

Why the Thyroid Matters

The thyroid is a small gland located in the neck that helps regulate metabolism, energy levels, body temperature, and mood. When thyroid hormone levels are too low, the body slows down, often leading to persistent fatigue and other symptoms.

Fatigue and Hypothyroidism

At NOLA Care, we frequently evaluate patients with symptoms of hypothyroidism. This condition occurs when the thyroid does not produce enough hormone and may cause fatigue, weight gain, dry skin, hair thinning, feeling cold, difficulty concentrating, or low mood. Many patients describe feeling exhausted despite getting adequate sleep.

Our Approach at NOLA Care

NOLA Care focuses on thoughtful, patient centered primary care. Thyroid concerns are evaluated using appropriate laboratory testing along with a careful review of symptoms and medical history. We believe listening to the patient is just as important as reviewing lab values.

When treatment is indicated, care is individualized with close follow up to ensure symptoms improve and patients feel well, not just within a normal lab range.

When to Seek Care

If fatigue has been present for weeks or months or is interfering with daily activities, a thyroid evaluation may be appropriate. Persistent fatigue should not be ignored.

At NOLA Care, patients are given time, attention, and personalized care rooted in traditional medicine and modern evidence.
